Everyday School/Spring OOTD

Hey guys! Today I will be talking about an outfit that I really love. I have been wearing this outfit so much that I figured I might as well create a blog post for it. :)

Small Talk

Small Talk
My friends in Dear You wrote a song about something that has happened in my life that I am just beginning to be able to speak about. It's called 'Small Talk' and it is a perfect representation of myself and what I've gone through these past few years. With my permission, they have released this song through their Soundcloud and Tumblr account. Here's a link to the post about 'Small Talk'. When they first sent me the song, I listened to it straight through twice before I told them what I thought. I immediately fell in love with it and it being about my struggles just made it 10x better. I will admit that I cried a little when I first heard it.

Chris and I were able to connect through this song as we have both gone through something similar. Like Chris said in the tumblr post: "I will say however, that if you’ve dealt with parents divorcing, it hurts. It’s so confusing. Watching a new family form with other people, watching your parents slowly resent each other, trying to stay strong for everyone because it’s all you really can do…its tough on a person."

This song has touched me so much and I will forever share this song with anyone who is willing to listen. The reason why I agreed to let it be released is because I have a feeling this song could help someone who is going through struggles in their life. It doesn't have to be divorce (which is what this song is about). People can relate to this song no matter what is going on in their life. That's the best thing about music.

Chris explained this song much better than I ever could. "The point of the song in my eyes is to explain the things that you don’t get to say when everyone is talking over you and fighting and in the middle of it all, and to ultimately circle back to hoping everything can be better, realizing that forgiveness is necessary to return to normal, and being okay with the fact that its not great yet, but its good and getting better. Being okay with the small talk for now."

Chris was able to take the words that I have never been able to say and put them into a song. I will be forever grateful for that.

So thank you, Chris (and the rest of Dear You).

'Small Talk'
By: Dear You

I can't lie and say I haven’t changed at least a little bit
I doubt you could say we've all stayed somewhat the same
Over the last four years
It’s been around for much longer, all the lights were burnt out
But nobody had the heart to knock on the door
And keeping quiet pulled this house apart

Sometimes I wonder if we could ever be closer
It’s hard to shake the feeling that we were easy to replace

How is the view from London this year?
If I concentrate enough it’s like I’m right there with you
I’ll do my best to forgive if it brings us together
Until then I’m okay with small talk about the weather

For a while it was hard to get over all of this change
How can I forgive you if I know who you really are?

Does this prove that my heroes exist?
Cause it scares me how quickly people can change
I was fast asleep back then but now I’m wide awake

I’m doing what I can to be bigger than this
I see hatred and hurt and all it does
Is bring us down

If I have to move mountains just to feel at home again, then so be it. I’m ready.

Just Some Photos

A couple of weeks ago, my friend Meagan, took my photos. We went to this place in Frisco that is an 8 mile path surrounded by nature. It was so pretty, especially because we were there when the sun was beginning to go down. Here's a few of my favorite photos that she took.

Thanks Meagan for the wonderful photos :)

Ombréd Hair (from blonde)

Wednesday, March 19, 2014

My friend, Jamie, and I.

 Ombréd Hair (From Blonde)

Hey everyone! As you might have noticed, I dyed my hair!! I'm totally in love with my new hair and wanted to tell y'all how I accomplished it.

It actually took a couple of days to do (with a day in between the last section. Does that make sense? It will in a second..)

Things Needed:
Hair Dye Applicator (I used two different bottles)
Gloves (I actually just used my hands. But they were stained for a few days..)
A darker hair dye (I used Wella Color Charm Dark Ash Blonde 6A liquid hair dye)
Bottle of 20 Developer
Bottle of 40 Developer (I used it for the light blonde section)
A lighter hair dye (I used Wella Color Charm Light Blonde 8N liquid hair dye)

(photos from SallyBeauty.com)

This is how I achieved my ombréd hair:
  1. Mix up the hair dye and developer (Follow the instructions)
  2. I applied the hair dye to roots/one-third of my hair. I let that sit for 10 minutes.
  3. I applied more hair dye to the next third of my hair. I let that sit for about 10 minutes.
  4. Then I applied hair dye to the ends of my hair (I wouldn't recommend doing this as that is why I had to go back and fix it)
  5. After letting it sit for 1 more minute, I hopped in the shower and used my mom's Ion Color Defense shampoo/conditioner.
Next day (because the ends of my hair were a gray-ish color instead of blonde)
  1. I went to Sally's again and picked up the Light Blonde hair dye.
  2. I mixed up the hair dye and developer.
  3. I then applied the hair dye to the ends of my hair and let it sit for 15 minutes
  4. Then I applied more hair dye a little further up my hair (not going past my jaw line) and let it sit for another 10-15 minutes.
  5. Then I washed it out in the shower.
Two days later (because the color still wasn't where I wanted it and I wanted to wait a day in between all the dying):
  1.  I used the same hair dye from the previous attempt. (I'll usually leave hair dye in the bottle sitting on my bathroom counter for a couple of days, just in case I missed a spot)
  2. I applied it to the ends of my hair again and let it sit for about 30 minutes.
  3. I then hopped in the shower and washed my hair with my Tresemme shampoo/conditioner
And FINALLY, I got the color I wanted!

& this is the finished look. It's super easy and looks great. I was really nervous before I did it, but I went to my mom's house just so she could make sure I got the back of my hair. And I think we did a pretty good job. :)

Let me know what y'all think.

Day at the Park

Today is just a quick post. I'm in Dallas visiting my sister, her husband, and their two daughters. Today, while my sister was at work, my brother-in-law and I took the girls to the park down the road. It was such a beautiful day. Not too hot, and not too cold.

We took a kite to the park and got little Ellie (she's 2 years old) to fly it. It was so cute. Here's a couple of my favorite photos from today. :)

Outfit of the Day - March 5, 2014

Now I didn't really have anything to do today, except taking a midterm and going to class, but I really wanted to wear the new crop top that I got from Charlotte Russe. It was a little chilly today, so I popped on my coat that my best friend got me for my 18th birthday.

[H&M doesn't sell the skirt anymore, but I posted a link below with one that's similar. Also, I couldn't find the coat online. I'm not sure if Wet Seal still sells it as it was bought almost 2.5 years ago.]

What I'm wearing:
Crop top from Charlotte Russe
Skirt from H&M
Tights from Walmart
Boots from Primark
Coat from Wet Seal

I got my boots when I was in London during Christmas break in 2012

Thanks for reading. Hope y'all have a wonderful day!
